The weekend began with a morning Time Trial, Brooks Bostick took 1st and Brian Arne grabbed 3rd. After a nice rest and some refueling at Panera Bread the guys went out to tackle the first of two road races. A high pace set mainly by cofc and mercer along with an unusual hard rain on only one portion of the track broke the pack into pieces. Brian Arne finished 1st and Brooks got 3rd in the small lead group. The sunday race ended up being another pedal pounder, with Mercer and CofC pushing the pace again. Even with the high pace and small finishing pack Brian, Brooks, and Jake all managed to finish in the lead group and might have contested for the win if not for an untimely move that disqualified a Georgia Southern rider. Overall another great weekend of racing, and thanks to Brian and his family for providing the best housing and food of the year!!
The Georgia Southern Weekend was another huge success for the College of Charleston Cycling Team. We had a short drive down to Statesboro on Saturday for the afternoon crit. With an 8 turn technical course Brooks Bostic and Brian Arne were able to create a breakaway very early in the race and they stayed away the whole race lapping almost the whole field, finishing 1st and 2nd respectivly! Jake Coleman finsihed 17th and Evan Jacobi finished 29th. Sunday was the 8:45 road race, in sub 40 starting temps. College of Charleston went in with a plan to set a high pace from the beginning and did so effectively catching the B field of riders within the opening 10 miles. After some confusion with the course and some sorting out with the B's a field of less than 20 came to the line for a bunch sprint. College of Charleston had 3 riders in the select finshing pack with Brooks Bostick winning the sprint and finshing 1st, Brian Arne 11th, and Jake Coleman 16th. Evan Jacobi finished just off the back in 24th.
The Florida State race began with an early time trial on Saturday after a long 6 and a half hour drive. Brooks Bostic overcame it all and managed a 2nd place finish. Brian Arne got 6th and Jake Coleman 15th. The USC and UCF teams showed up for the road race later that day providing plenty of allies and College of Charleston asserted its dominance with Brian Arne getting 1st place on a solo breakaway with 2 miles left. The crit on Sunday proved to be a fun and fast race. The field averaged around 24mph with Brooks Bostic getting 4th, Brian Arne 11th, Jake Coleman 14th, and Evan Jacobi 33rd.
The Swamp Classic, the College of Charleston Cycling Team's first race of the season was a huge success! In the ITT on saturday we locked down the C class getting the 3rd and 4th positions overall, with Brooks Bostic finishing 3rd and Brian Arne finishing 4th. Sunday in the Criterium we continued to dominate with all five riders entering the race and performing great. Brooks finished 2nd overall and Brian managed to grab 2 of the 3 primes even after a crash on the second lap. Our stay in Florida was a great one overall even with the huge superbowl crowds and some trouble checking into our hotel. Thanks to all our riders for giving their all and to the Central Florida Cycling Team for helping our first year team get into the groove of cycling weekends.
